Self-Care 101 for National Relaxation Day

It’s no secret that we ladies can get busy, so some personal time here and there is much needed. When the working day gets too stressful or you just need to rediscover that calm, inner centre among the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and always remember how important a little bit of self-care is. With National Relaxation Day upon us this month, we thought it was the right time to take a look and see what you can do to revive your mind, body, and soul.

1. A clean home is a clean mind

Clutter in your home doesn’t just attract dust, it can also be a magnet for negative thoughts. A cluttered, messy home can become oppressive and lead to depression – not the most fun situation. Restoring a sense of order in your home can be an important step on your self-care journey. That doesn’t mean you have to start throwing everything in the bin – you can achieve just as much with a little bit of practicality and organisation.

First step, put away things that you don’t use every day. That means that the items that are most important to you (such as family photos or a specific little trinket with deep sentimental value) are displayed to their fullest, and not lost in amongst a sea of trivial clutter. Having a good ‘spring clean’ through your home can restore a sense of calm and balance. Don’t forget to engage all your senses, so as well as material objects, create a space that smells good too with incense and scented candles that evokes a feeling of calm and serenity. One of our favourites is the gloriously rich and warm vanilla scent of the Colony Vanilla Reed Diffuser, with a creamy scent that can fill a room. Dim down the lighting and give it a more subtle yet dynamic feel by using candles and lamps, instead of harsh overhead lighting.

2. Make bath time your ‘me’ time

While a shower might invigorate you and get you ready for the day ahead, when you want to unwind in the evening there’s nothing quite like a long, relaxing soak in a bath. Indulge all your senses again, with fragrant bath bombs and essential oils that not only evoke a sense of calm, but can also do wonders to soften your skin too.

Make bath time your special time. If you love your books then why not take one into the bathroom with you and lose yourself in a story? Alternatively, pop your headphones on, turn on the soothing sound of a guided meditation on your iPod, and simply close your eyes and imagine you’re digging your toes into warm sand at the beach, or walking through a rainforest.

3. Pamper your skin

Taking care of your skin after a long week is no doubt another way to feed your soul. First, wipe off the day’s dirt with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, then cleanse the face with Wycon Cosmetics Cleansing Mousse, which will not only clean, but also enrich your skin with the good stuff. Next, we love applying a face mask, like the Palladio Moisturizing Face Mask, which leaves it silky soft, hydrated, and smooth. Complete your regime with a high quality face cream, to lock in the moisture.

We don’t know about you, but there’s no feeling quite like the post-bath full body moisturization, especially when it’s Tisserand Lavender and While Mint Body Lotion. The relaxing fragrance and botanical extracts will not only soothe and calm the skin, but also the mind.

After all that pampering, we’re pretty sure you’ll be totally relaxed, revived, and restored. Isn’t it time you set a little bit of time for yourself, not just on National Relaxation Day, but every day?
